Irrigation Makes Saskatchewan Grow!

Mission Statement

The mission of the Saskatchewan Irrigation Projects Association (SIPA) is to represent the interests of irrigation in Saskatchewan through one common voice. It is dedicated to the expansion of irrigation while ensuring the efficient use of Saskatchewan’s water resources. It is committed to promoting to all citizens the values and benefits of irrigation for the province’s growth and economic well-being now and into the future.

Values

• Development of irrigation policies must occur from the producers up to the decision makers
• To protect our environment through appropriate and effective irrigation practices
• SIPA and it’s members must partner with government, industry, recreation, wetlands and others who have a stake in our water resources.

Goals and Objectives

1. The board will develop a plan to be the advocate for irrigation projects in Saskatchewan, representing and lobbying irrigation concerns on behalf of the association, its members and other irrigators to government and stakeholders and to make SIPA the point of entry for new projects and to assist in new district formation.

2. The board will develop and implement a strategy to promote the benefits of irrigation.

3. The board will develop a plan to provide direct input to government to assist in setting policies being made by government departments that have an impact on irrigation and to provide options and recommendations for the implementation of those policies.

4. The board will develop a process to assist in the expansion of irrigatable acres.

SIPA has adopted and proposed five basic principles that should form the basis of an irrigation development policy for Saskatchewan (rehab, infill and new development)

1. Long term & uninterrupted
2. Fully funded
3. Co-operation – Amongst government departments & agencies
4. Universal – available province wide
5. One door service
